I am almost too scared to write this report because the absence of hordes of tourists are what made my visit there so special This was my favourite of all the temples because when we visited, we were the only tourists there. The solitude, the majesty, the absolute magnificence of this temple a long way from anywhere, hidden in the jungle, and being able to enjoy the moment without loud obnoxious people around was truly something I will treasure always.
The "personal" escort of children from the local school was indeed a bonus, contrary to what I expected. The long, muddy, unsealed road in was worth the end result.
I hope this place doesn't get inundated like the other temples for purely selfish reasons! This was a nice walk through the trees to see the temples. This was a first glimpse of what was to come and was amazing to see all the great temple architecture. We arrived by car and I'm sure the tuk tuk ride would have been rather bumpy. The visit can take you up to 2 hours if you wish but with a good guide you can see most of the important temples in 1. Situated a reasonable distance from Kampong Thom, the road is sealed for about half the journey, then unsealed once you turn off.
It makes the journey fairly challenging in a tuk tuk. Fortunately, my friendly guide at the temples was able to translate that I wasn't going to pay any more. Make sure you get a guide when you are there, they will approach you when you arrive. The complex is large, and takes a couple of hours to see properly. Your guide will be able to point out bomb craters, and give you some of the history that the guide books miss out. There is also a home stay at the village that would be worth checking out.
For temple junkies, fascinating to see the progression of the older temples here to the ones at Angkor. Is a collection of 7th century temple ruins located in kampong Thom province About km from siem reap town. Consisting of dozens of empressive brick Prasats in semi-cleared jungle ,many ruins displaying excellent examples of early Khmer art.
